Save the Date!

Central Missouri Community Action is proud to announce the official date for our Second Annual Ride Out Poverty Bike Ride!

Saturday, May 22, 2010
8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Rocheport Trailhead
Rocheport, MO

Riding Out Poverty is not only CMCA's major fundraiser of the year, it also serves as the capstone event to Community Action Month. Throughout the month, CMCA will be producing press releases throughout our 8 counties, mobilizing our supporters, and putting poverty on the hearts and minds of the entire mid-Missouri region.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with a grassroots marketing effort and help us implement a broad campaign to encourage civic, faith-based, other community organizations, and businesses to register teams as an effort to show support to our neighbors that are struggling as a result of the recession.

We're also looking for people who like to ride their bikes who would be interested in riding in the event and/or creating a team. Teams are being built in several counties, so jump on board now!

If you're interested in volunteering before the event in marketing/fundraising or event planning, or if you're interested in volunteering at the event, please contact CMCA's Volunteer Coordinator, Megan Lee at:

megan-lee@showmeaction.org
573-442-6837, ext. 25

Welcome to Mid-Missouri Volunteers!

As Central Missouri Community Action prepares to launch its Volunter Program with a freshly developed website, a centralized and streamlined volunteer intake process, and new, exciting volunteer opportunities at every corner, I'd like to welcome you to another part of the Program: CMCA's Volunteer Blog.

We will use this blog to post updates about upcoming volunteer opportunities, on-going volunteer projects, community successes, and events. This blog will also serve as an excellent place to share stories from the field of volunteerism in Central Missouri and to connect volunteers (and potential volunteers) with resources, locally and nationally.

CMCA is an organization dedicated towards ensuring that all individuals and families have their needs met and have access to lifelong learning opportunities and that communities are able to enhance their community and economic assets. At the core of this is the committment to building relationships across race and class lines, an intrinsic part of of CMCA's committment to empowering individuals and families to achieve self-reliance. One of CMCA's Strategic Committments is to recognize volunteers as the Agency's most valuable resource. Volunteers are the life-blood, the very essense of community action and social justice.

In short, we couldn't do what we're doing without the unending energy, creativity, and committment of volunteers across Central Missouri.

On behalf of Central Missouri Community Action, thank you and welcome to CMCA's Mid-Missouri Volunteers blog.
